What is Ayurveda? Prakruti and Vikruti

Ayurveda is considered to be the oldest healing science, the “Mother of all Healing.” In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The science of life.” Ayurveda originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and was taught in oral tradition from masters to their disciples. Many natural healing therapies that exist here in the West have their roots in Ayurveda: Polarity Therapy, Chinese Medicine, and Homeopathy, just to name a few.

Prevention is Ayurveda’s greatest emphasis and promotes right thinking, right dieting, and proper lifestyle choices. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables you to understand how create balance of body, mind and consciousness according to your own individual constitution.

Just as you have a unique fingerprint, you have a unique pattern of physical, emotional, and mental characteristics – your constitution. Your constitution is determined at the moment of conception – this is your state at it’s purest & healthiest form. In Sanskrit this is your Prakruti. Many internal and external factors can disturb your constitution, such as food, the seasons and weather, and your relationships. When we move from our balanced state, Prakruti, to an imbalanced state, this is called, Vikruti.

How to find your Prakruti andVikruti:

Your Prakruti and Vikruti can only be identified by visiting a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner. Your practitioner will obtain your health history and current state of well-being along with taking your Ayurvedic Pulse and complete a Tongue Diagnosis to determine your Prakruti and Vikruti.  From there your practitioner may recommend many therapies to help bring you back into a state of balance such as: herbal therapy, diet and lifestyle choices, aromatherapy, yoga, and meditation.

In today’s world, there is no doubt that everyone could use Ayurveda. As individuals we are inundated with daily stress, anxiety, and fear. We live in a world where too much is available at our fingertips. Many of us have digestive and mental disturbances that we call “normal” like gas and anxiety. By understanding your constitution you can create balance, minimize the impact of stress, and improve your digestion.

Ayurveda is simply taking your yoga practice off of your mat and into your home, kitchen, and bedroom. It is conscious living that reminds you of the simple things in life that you already know but that you’ve forgotten!

Welcome to SimpleVeda!

Welcome to SimpleVeda! I’m so glad you’re here!

SimpleVeda was created with a passion for healing the WORLD!  In order for me to do that, I had to first heal MYSELF!

My journey began as a yoga student and then led to becoming a yoga teacher. As a yoga teacher the common question I received from my students was, “what do you eat?”  Geez, do I really tell them?  This common question forced me look at my eating habits and question IF what I was eating was the best choice for my mind and body.

After seeing an Ayurvedic practitioner in 2005 I began to understand my digestion and what foods resonated with my body and which ones didn’t. Through this process I was able to lose weight, reduce many digestive disturbances that I thought were “normal”, and begin what I call my “Spiritual Journey”.

After 3 years of self study, I decided I wanted to know more about Ayurveda, beyond what foods to eat and which ones to avoid. I wanted to understand this ancient science that the yogis lived by for thousands of years! It had to be more than just what you eat!

In 2009 I graduated from the California College of Ayurveda in Grass Valley, CA where I learned the deeper dimensions of Ayurveda. It was the most amazing journey I’ve been on! Living this lifestyle has bettered my life and the lives of my family. I feel so fortunate to be teaching this to my 2 year old son!
In today’s society we are inundated with responsibilities and the amount of stress on American’s is gross. Every day we get caught up in the dramas of life and we get lost.  Ayurveda is THE pathway to find your true Self. Ayurveda creates a balanced life; it will help you to slow down while still being productive, it will reduce the aging process, it reduces the impact of stress, it will lead to an understanding of WHO you are and your purpose!

I invite you to connect with me as I post Ayurvedic related information, recipes, and more on this blog!  Connect with me on my website and if you feel empowered, come see me for a consultation!
